@Nora: All you have to do is download Calibre and import the HTML file and then convert it. I'm still learning lots of little things about creating eBooks, one of which is the successful inclusion of images. However, it's fairly simple to create and convert ebooks with Calibre. One tip that's important when making a conversion that I've found is putting in a font size and line-height under "Look & Feel." When I first started making ebooks, I'd get tiny, tiny books (unreadable) when I finished the conversion.

Okay, thinking about this topic more, what I really want to know is: I have a website with lengthy articles published in html. How can I take those to epub format with the minimum amount of conversion steps and reformatting, etc. I think that would make an excellent topic for the readers of Think Vitamin.

Good article. I have many clients interested in publishing their own short e-books, and I'd love to be able to provide them that service. I'd love to see more Think Vitamin articles and resources posted on this topic -- especially how to leverage knowledge of html to format e-books.

>>It seems ebooks are the way to go ^_^

Oh yes :)

The power of multiple distribution channels will be the key.

Apple: High
Android: Mid
Kindle: Low

And then there are affiliate marketers who employ widgets on their networks of 100+ websites.

Honestly ebooks are one of the few recent technologies that just don't do anything for me. If I was going to read an ebook, the only way I'd do it is on some type of portable tablet, but even then I'm thinking, I only read 1 MAYBE 2 books at a time, so why would I need an ebook as opposed to a good old fashioned hard copy. I guess I can appreciate the fact that by taking print out of the equation you can make publications much more available all over the world, but for me personally, I don't see any use.

Great tips, Brian. I really like 2epub.com for converting MS Word Doc to epub, mobi, and lrf. Calibre is essential as a reading device and conversion tool but it doesn't work with Word. Also Smashwords.com will get authors into Apple iBookstore as well as many other biggies. Using PayPal buttons to sell from your website and blog allows you to keep 90% plus of the profits and can easily be set to work automatically. As an author of 3 books, I've embraced the ebook platform. My advice is to do everything you can for free first, and then if you want to spend money on this or that... go for it.
Other authors, if you have questions, feel free to contact me. Good luck and remember, this is not a get rich quick thing but more of a slow and steady wins the race.

As with any other form of printed media, you can do it on your own, but there are many essential things you miss out on. Just to name a few, there is editing, distribution, publicity, promotions, marketing, and many other essential services which will help your book land into the hands of readers amongst the sea of do-it-yourself E-books out there. Plus, to have just an E-book version is to miss a whole mass market of individuals who still prefer to have the printed copy. I'm one of them! :) Check out this article » http://ow.ly/1ZjWt

Thank you for the links to the various epub converters. I did not now of sigil and eCub before. I wil have to take a look into them.
Another option is to use an online epub converter like http://www.epubconverter.org .
