Great article, but (speaking as both a developer and designer) I don't think that validation and accessibility should be the developer's job, unless of course, the designer is also the developer.

The developer is responsible for the back end and possibly the front end Javascript programming. But writing markup and CSS isn't programming and I think if a company is going to delineate tasks, ensuring the accessibility and validity of a CSS file falls squarely out of the programmer's responsibility. Besides, the person(s) who wrote the CSS should know it best and therefore be responsible for its quality.

I don’t know. Of course it can be done. Any CMS can be extended to a point where it can serve various purposes. But WordPress is first and foremost a great blogging package. A great, but specialized piece of equipment. I made another decision. I preferred Joomla for my main website and then I tried out the JoomlaBlog tool. It didn’t work for me either. It was way easier (and more powerful) to setup Joomla as the front end package and wrap WordPress into it. That way I could use the strength of both, instead of compromising one for the other.

Just as an artist has proper tools they know well, it’s important for a designer/developer to know the tools they use well. For CSS, that would be the editor you are using.

There are many text editors to choose from: TextMate, Coda, BB Edit, TextPad, DreamWeaver, etc. I’m not here to tell you which one to pick; they all have their pros and cons, and the right editor for you is up for you to decide. gömlek However, once you have decided on a text editor, make sure you learn everything you can about it. Find out what the shortcuts are, and learn all the tips and tricks you can gomlek
Mastering your text editor is the best way to speed up your development time, and help you be more much more efficient when creating sexy stylesheets.
