I actually think you’re over estimating it! sxsw is a big festival consisting of a very large number of non-invited speakers. It’s more social festival than professional conference.

From a business point of view how do you justify doing this considering you wonâ€™t get paid anything (am I right on that?), the preparation time and relatively small exposure (compared to the time you could spend on other ways of marketing)?

I think you’re under estimating how big of an influence SXSW has on the industry. To be involved in a panel is a very valuable PR opportunity.
