The only difference is that if you pay for it, you can remove the link back to the amcharts site that appears in the top corner by default. Tableau Public is free, unlike AmCharts. And it's not Flash-based so your viewers don't need to download any plugins. They're free and do all sorts of wizardly things that Google charts can't even approach. Nice animations, timelines, javascript interactions & triggers - and super easy to work with.
