Just to clarify here - there isn't a "full version" of AMCharts, paid and unpaid both do everything. The only difference is that if you pay for it, you can remove the link back to the amcharts site that appears in the top corner by default.

Have to agree with Jan on this one. Tableau Software (that's us, full disclosure) has been making some of the best data visualization tools on the market and we just made Tableau Public available for bloggers and journalists to use free on the web.

@Brian Suda: you won't run into the wall if you do beyond the basics in Tableau Public, like you will with Google Charts. Tableau Public is free, unlike AmCharts. And it's not Flash-based so your viewers don't need to download any plugins.

You can download it free at www.tableaupublic.com and just publish your visualizations to our cloud for free.

What about Tableau Public? Very powerful graphs - they look cool and are interactive. And it's free. http://www.tableaupublic.com

I completely agree. Once you start trying to do anything beyond the basics Google Charts start to hit the wall. AmCharts is an excellent alternative, but the full version isn't free. Also, because it is flash you will run into all the problems on devices that don't support it.

I would recommend looking into Flot and Canvas, it could be alternative. Especially with all the rumblings of a Flash to canvas exporter.

I just spent the last few months working on implementing data visualization tools for a few clients, trying out a bunch of options, so I thought I'd chime in here. It's worth mentioning that the Google Charts are *very* limited in functionality; if you really want robust flash charting, take a look at the amCharts / amMaps and OpenFlashCharts packages. They're free and do all sorts of wizardly things that Google charts can't even approach. Nice animations, timelines, javascript interactions & triggers - and super easy to work with.

I’m surprised that you didn’t cover any JavaScript solutions. I’ve found Raphaël[1] and the associated gRaphaël[2] pretty handy for creating graphs; they create SVG graphs for browsers that support it, and fall back to VML for Internet Explorer.

An information is always more appealing when it is accompanied with a diagram. The four different options provided in the post are quiet useful. The use of canvas element is widely used now as it is the latest trend in this sphere.
