Embeddable Tweets Made Easy

By @keirwhitaker

05 May 2010 | Category: Design

A while ago Twitter announced media.twitter.com. The site aims to give you “knowledge and tools to help you use Twitter to transform media, entertainment, and journalism”. Among the recent articles was one entitled “Fresh-baked tweets for your posts“, a “hack” by Robin Sloan.

Put simply it’s a script that allows you to embed a tweet on your own site. It’s pretty straightforward, here’s what you do:

  1. Visit http://media.twitter.com/blackbird-pie/
  2. Enter the URL of the tweet you wish to emded (e.g. http://twitter.com/carsonified/status/13363263815) and click “Bake It”
  3. Copy and paste the resulting code into your web site

Here’s how it Looks

As Robin describes in the post it’s still a hack and not really a “feature” but it’s easy and the results are pretty impressive.

I imagine we’ll start seeing this pop up a lot, will you use it?

It should better use inline style attributes as it’s invalid to have tags outside of (e.g. like in the body of a post)

Note to author: HTML stripping removed the tags, this is a repost of my previous comment using HTML entities

not usually a fan of shameless self promotion, but I’ve been working on a better way to embed tweets with inline styles, microdata, and real semantics. http://www.willworkforart.net/projects/citer – I’d love some feedback on it.
