That’s a very useful article Chris.

I’ve been debating a while now about putting up a second site for my curly hair products site. After reading your article, I am not so sure. The iPhone diplays the site fine but most other phones don’t.

I think I’ll keep the same color scheme and look and feel, but whiddle it down to the basic HTML and CSS and make the site easy to browse. Then offer a BIG link to the full site for iphone or other advanced browser cell phone users.

Hi heradas,

I have some perl code which uses WURFL data to specifically identify mobile devices. WURFL is used mainly to define mobile devices and doesn’t separate mobile from desktop. I also use javascript and so simple perl code to detect mobile vs desktop, while lastly using WURLF data as a last resort. Works fairly well, I think. If interested, see this url for starters:

The base example is this download:

wurfl_perl_data_05_2010.zip

which includes the code for processing the WURFL data file into a perl only module of sorts.
