Topics and schedule
| Session | Length | Topics | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Session | 1 hour | Undercover User Experience Cennydd Bowles Once you catch the user experience bug, the world changes. Doors open the wrong way, websites don’t work, and companies don’t seem to care. Fortunately, anyone can learn the UX remedies – usability testing, personas, prototyping and so on – but, unless your organization 'gets it', putting them into practice is trickier. This session will show you how to do great UX work with tiny budgets, no time, and even without official clearance. |
|
| 2nd Session | 1 hour | DIY Design Research Leisa Reichelt Good UX Designers become Great UX Designers by observing and understanding how people engage with technology. Every single UX project you've worked on should have included some Design Research. Learn how design a research project, find and recruit participants, research techniques including interviewing and participatory design, and how to make sense of and apply what you've learned in your design. |
|
| Break | 20 mins | Stretch your legs & grab a coffee (or dinner if it's that time of day for you). | |
| 3rd Session | 1 hour | How to Prototype and Influence People Aza Raskin The value of an idea is zero unless it can be communicated. The most powerful way to communicate is with touchable prototypes. While most people think prototypes are time consuming, many of the products that have changed the world have started as a single-day prototype. Even the Palm Pilot was simply a block of wood that they founder carried around for weeks. Learn how to prototype. And change the world. |
|
| 4th Session | 1 hour | Hands on Prototyping Dan Rubin Dan will be covering the actual nuts and bolts of creating the prototype: a little Photoshop, but mostly HTML and CSS, including plenty of tips and tricks. He'll cover details and examples about the test itself including cross-browser and OS testing and how to test specific parts of the UI. |

Speakers

Dan Rubin
http://superfluousbanter.orgDan Rubin is a highly accomplished user interface designer and usability consultant, with over ten years of experience as a leader in the fields of web standards and usability, specifically focusing on the use of (X)HTML and CSS to streamline development and improve accessibility. His passion for all things creative and artistic isn't a solely selfish endeavor either—you'll frequently find him waxing educational about a cappella jazz and barbershop harmony, interface design, usability, web standards, typography, and graphic design in general.
Aza Raskin
http://www.azarask.inAza is currently the Creative Lead for Firefox. Previously he was Head of User Experience for Mozilla Labs. Aza gave his first talk on user interface at age 10 and got hooked. At 17, he was talking and consulting internationally; at 19, he coauthored a physics textbook because he was too young to buy alcohol; at 21, he started drinking alcohol and co-founded Humanized. Two years later, Aza founded Songza.com, a minimalist music search engine that had over a million song plays in it's first week.
Cennydd Bowles
http://www.cennydd.co.ukCennydd Bowles leapt into the world of user experience eight years ago and hasn't shut up about it since. He now works for Clearleft in Brighton, England and moonlights as a UX blogger, mentor and community evangelist. Cennydd is a regular public speaker (SXSW, IA Summit), a widely published writer (A List Apart, Johnny Holland, .net magazine) and co-conspirator of the UX London conference. His first book "Undercover User Experience", written with fellow Clearleftie James Box, will be published in September 2010 by New Riders.
