Any time I see a “fail” tweet about a brand or site I’m a part of, I’ll try to @ reply them as soon as possible. I’ll apologize for their bad experience and ask them what I can do to make it right.

Typically people will back down from their claims, and sometimes even apologize back. I think people like to sensationalize meaningless problems to make themselves seem more interesting or intelligent. It’s silly and narcissistic, really.

I think the other reason people do this is because they don’t ever expect anyone to respond, so when you do in fact respond to them, it can be very disarming. On the upside, I’ve had many cases where I’ve managed to turn a negative tweet into a fan. The quick, apologetic response makes them realize that there’s a real person at the other end of the wire.

    Great stuff, as usual! :)

Agreed – I don’t think people expect a ‘real’ person to see/read their FAIL tweets.

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for making the transcripts available – I, and all your other deaf and hard of hearing readers, can follow your radio episodes as well as your posts.

Not so many others bother with accessibility so thanks for making the effort.

How about including in each RSS feed entry the link to the MP3 file, so news readers can immediately download the MP3?

  • Keir Whitaker

    Hey Michael,

Do you mean as an enclosure? The link should appear in our general feed and as an enclosure in the actual RSS feed for the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thinkvitaminradio.

Do let me know if you are not seeing it and I will investigate.

    Thanks,
    Keir

    Hi Steve,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. The transcript for this show is on it’s way, once again apologies for the delay.

    Thanks,
    Keir

I think I might have a sense of what Mike meant about the “sharing before it’s ready” aspect. I prefer the idea of unveiling something and letting everyone see it for the first time, at the same time. The suspense around whether or not something is truly good keeps us at our best. You could lose a bit of that if you’ve posted a half dozen screen grabs before it’s launched.

In regards to sharing and reviewing code, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great web developers and I’ve watched them digest other developers’ code. I think they have the same visceral experience that Ryan mentioned when reviewing a design. They can immediately gain a sense of the developer’s proficiency, methodologies and whether or not the code is worth anything, just as Mike could look at a design in 10 seconds and say, “This is good, but here’s where you could make some improvements”.

This was my first Think Vitamin Radio episode and I was so happy to be able to immediately start listening directly from the home page. Too many sites make me go to iTunes or subscribe in some fashion. The fact that all I had to do was click “play” has now made me a subscriber.

    Cheers!

    Hi Justin,

Thanks for your comment and subscribing. I had been meaning to implement the player for some time but hadn’t found the time to code it up. I am pleased with the result and really happy you found it useful.
