I love coming back from vacation …

By @ryancarson

While the rest of the World was suffering from World Cup Fever, I took a well earned (in my opinion) vacation to Portugal with Gill and Jackson. At least once a year I like to take a vacation where I leave the MacBook off, only take emergency calls and don’t check email. This ensures I totally switch off from work and dedicate quality time to my family – it also gives me a good chance to recharge my depleted batteries and gives me a fresh perspective on everything when I return.

And hot damn have I returned today! Feels great to be back in the Carsonified office and to catch up with all my team. I loved my break, but I woke up super early this morning, and couldn’t wait to come through the office door, see the team and get updated where everything’s at – what makes it even better are all the projects the Team have been working while I’ve been out.

We’ve launched our latest online conference – the jQuery Online Conference, and Greg has done an amazing job of getting some World Class speakers lined up to take part – the likes of Rey Bango and John Resig will be talking through subjects like jQuery Pluginization and Taking jQuery Effects to the Next Level. If you haven’t checked this out yet – please do take a look, if you have an interest in jQuery, I’m pretty sure you’ll want to take part in this – the beauty is you can attend from your sofa, your office, or your roof top garden.

Of course, if you’re a member of Think Vitamin Membership you may already have signed up to this conference – just on the issue of TVM (as we affectionately call it in the office) – I have had SO MUCH great feedback. Both on how much people are loving it, and how we can improve it. I love that kind of constructive feedback, and we are busy working on a lot of the suggestions.

I’m also really happy with the number of new videos we’re adding every week, and we have an awesome program of tutorials coming online in July – remember, we do a free 24 hour trial pass, so if you haven’t done so, please, please do check out TVM – it really rocks!

Now for a secret admission – whilst laying on the beach sipping my margarita (that’s how I roll!) I did think about work just for 5 mins. I’m so happy with what we’re doing with TVM – my ambition is to make it THE place for designers and developers to be able to learn and improve on their skill base – at an affordable price. I feel like we’ve made an amazing start, and with YOUR feedback, we’ll continue to make it better and better.

As if all that’s not enough, the schedule for Future of Web Apps London 2010 is looking INCREDIBLE! Tickets are flying out on a daily basis, and we’ve released a few more early bird tickets (that’s how much of a good mood holiday puts me in!). Personally, I can’t wait to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones as well. FOWA has fast become THE conference in Europe for people designing, building and launching web apps, and I’m always blown away by both the speakers and by our attendee’s – it’s a great buzz for me to be able to actually talk to people who attend the show and understand what they get out of it.

I think what we have planned for this show is going to be super awesome and eclipse all past shows!

Well this post was going to be a quick 100 worder – but I just found myself on a roll :) I hope everything is great for you all, and I’ll try and get another post out later this week!

As a thinkvitamine member will I have discount for the “future of web apps” ticketcs?

  • Ryan Carson

Hey Nuno – you bet. You’ll get access to Early Bird tickets, before anyone else. So all the Early Bird tickets will probably be bought up by Think Vitamin Members.
